Bill Maher Ridicules Looney Left Policies For Changing Democrats On HBO’s ‘Real Time’

Last night on Real Time with Bill Maher, the HBO host spent his “New Rule” segment ridiculing the leftist progressives whose “looney” policies have often made real issues seem like a complete joke. This came after Maher was criticized last week for his stance on learning to live with the COVID-19 pandemic due to personal fatigue.

Maher pointed out that a Fox News commentator recently suggested that he should be the Democratic nominee to run for president, which critics perceived as a sign that he’s changed. “I am not,” he declared. “I am still the same unmarried, pot-smoking libertine I always was.” The 66-year-old comedian added, “I have many flaws, but you can’t accuse me of maturing.”

“Let’s get this straight,” Maher said. “It’s not me who’s changed, it’s the left. A large contingent has gone mental, and I’m willing to call them out.”

His willingness to tell it like it is, Maher believes, should not make him a Republican hero by any means. Republicans are so broken, he says, that “simply acknowledging reality is seen as a profile in courage,” referring to Congresswoman Liz Cheney’s acknowledgement that the 2020 election was not “stolen” by Joe Biden.

Critics have been harsh on Maher as of late, claiming that he never made fun of the left as much as he does now. Maher countered, “Yeah, because they didn’t give me so much to work with. The oath of office I took was to comedy.”

Maher insisted he is not to blame for the party of FDR and JFK turning into the party of LOL and WTF moments, where elected officials talk about everything from canceling rent and mortgages to canceling Lincoln and Dr. Seuss, and making Mr. Potato Head gender neutral.

“You have to inject yourself into everything,” Maher lamented of hyper-woke politicians. “This is why so many were triggered by COVID policies. They were already sick of rules.”

“But Democrats are becoming a parody of self, making rules to make rules…making sure everything bad never happens again.” This, he says, is an unrealistic goal. “It just makes everything a drag.”

“Democrats no longer possess the common sense to know that not every problem can be fixed with a regulation,” he said. “Democrats have to stop thinking that what voters dream about is to be hassled.”
