‘The Offer’: Go Behind the Scenes of ‘The Godfather’ in First Paramount+ Trailer

“We want to make a movie.”

Have you ever wondered how one of Hollywood’s greatest films, The Godfather, was brought to fruition? It’s a long and winding tale, but Paramount+‘s upcoming series The Offer will lay it all out for you. Get a first look at the long, winding road the movie’s creators took to get The Godfather into theaters in the show’s first trailer, unveiled by Paramount+ at their Television Critics Association (TCA) panel today.

Based on Oscar-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy’s never-before-seen experiences of making The Godfather, the 10-episode series was created by Oscar and Emmy-nominated Michael Tolkin, with Nikki Toscano also set as showrunner and writer on the project. The series, which will debut this April, has attached Miles Teller to lead as Ruddy himself.

In the trailer, we get an exclusive look at all the challenges The Godfather faced before debuting in theaters in 1972. Instead of a documentary of talking heads and archival footage, we’re thrown right into the action, facing mobs, protests, and other critical culture moments that led to the release of The Godfather.

Why, one might ask, did The Godfather face such issues in production? The trailer reveals that it was worried to be just another gangster film, that it’s bad for business, that all gangster movies are dead, and that it’s a bad image of the Italian community. Agents won’t sign it. Oh, and Frank Sinatra is trying to shut the picture down! Still, by the end of the brief clip, the producers have found the perfect opening line: “I believe in America.”

Other cast includes Matthew Goode as Robert Evans, Juno Temple as Bettye McCartt, Giovanni Ribisi as Joe Colombo, Dan Fogler as Francis Ford Coppola, Burn Gorman as Charles Bluhdorn, Colin Hanks as Barry Lapidus and Patrick Gallo as Mario Puzo.

Tolkin and Toscano will executive produce alongside Ruddy, Teller, Russel Rothberg, Leslie Greif, and Dexter Fletcher, who also directed the first block of the series.

The Offer will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on Thursday, April 28, with three episodes available to stream at launch. The remaining seven episodes will be available to stream weekly on Thursdays. Scroll up to the video above to watch the trailer.
