‘Spencer,’ Kristen Stewart’s Oscar Hopeful, Is Now Streaming on Hulu

Now that this year’s Oscar nominations have been announced, it’s time to get all caught up on the movies you haven’t seen yet. To make things a little easier, Hulu has surprised all subscribers with a special nomination day gift: Spencer is now streaming for free on the platform. If you haven’t watched Kristen Stewart‘s Academy Award-nominated performance, what are you waiting for? Order some KFC and get cracking.

Although Stewart was snubbed at the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards, there’s still hope that she’ll be able to take the title for Best Actress in a Leading Role. The former Twilight actress is up against Penélope Cruz for Parallel Mothers, Nicole Kidman for Being the Ricardos, Olivia Colman for The Lost Daughter, and Jessica Chastain for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Our best guess at her biggest competitor would be Kidman, who already scored the award at the Golden Globes.

Pablo Larraín’s sweeping biopic follows Stewart’s Princess Diana as she embraces a Christmas in Norfolk with the Royal Family. While forced to reckon with her estranged husband Prince Charles’ affair as it picks up steam in the press, the beloved Princess starts to lose control of her mental health. Even though it’s just three days, Princess Di isn’t so sure if she’ll make it through or not.”

Spencer is something else – not a biopic, not a well-mannered drama, not a conventional film at all. It’s a take-it-or-leave-it affair,” writes Decider’s John Serba in his review of the film. “I’ll take it, for being a merciless takedown of haughty Brit aristocracy, which is a lowbrow reason, but still a good reason, to like a movie.”

Spencer premiered in early September at the Venice International Film Festival, earning a ton of praise for Stewart’s leading performance. The film, which is the second buzzy biopic from Larraín, later released in theaters in December and is now on Hulu.
