Netflix Paid Convicted Scammer Anna Sorokin $320,000 To Adapt Her Story For ‘Inventing Anna’

The fake German heiress Anna Sorokin (aka Anna Delvey) was paid a large sum of money from Netflix for the rights to adapt her story in the hit new series Inventing Anna, created by Shonda Rhimes.

According to Insider, the streamer paid Sorokin $320,000 to use her life story, which included how she scammed the rich and powerful under the guise of a false persona.

Sorokin made a name for herself among New York’s elite, claiming to be a German heiress with a 60 million trust fund fortune. She even made her way into national headlines in 2018 after New York Magazine ran a story about her plan to create a mixed use space by lending money from banks. During Sorokin’s time as a globetrotter she swindled hundreds of thousands of dollars from her wealthy friends with the promise of paying them back with no follow through.

The jig was up in 2017 when she was arrested for grand-larceny charges and found guilty in 2019. Of the $320,000 Sorokin recently received from Netflix she paid $199,000 in restitution, $24,000 in state fines, and $75,000 in attorney fees. The courts let her keep the mere $22,000 that was left.
