South Park is heading home. ViacomCBS announced today that they’re taking back the Comedy Central adult animated series, which will stream exclusively on Paramount+ beginning in 2025. This news comes as the expiration date on South Park‘s 2019 mega $500 million deal nears. You’ve got three years, HBO Max subscribers, until you’ve got to make the big transition.
But in markets outside of the U.S., the full South Park catalog will become available in Paramount+ later this year. In addition, all new episodes of the series will go to Paramount+, starting with Season 27, which will debut in 2024. As part of MTV Entertainment Studios’ new deal with co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, South Park will continue into Season 30 along with 14 specials on Paramount+. So far, South Park: Post COVID and South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID have aired, both dropping on the streamer in 2021.
In similar adult animation news, ViacomCBS announced a new installation of Beavis and Butt-Head. A new film titled Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe will land on Paramount+ sometime in the future. The flick is described as “perhaps the dumbest space movie ever made,” following Beavis and Butt-head as they’re sentenced to Space Camp. Along with this film, a new season of Beavis and Butt-Head and all previous episodes will land on Paramount+.
“‘South Park’ and ‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ are two of the most successful and widely known adult animation IP in the history of the genre, and I am thrilled that Paramount Plus will be their exclusive new SVOD home,” said Chris McCarthy, chief content officer of unscripted entertainment and adult animation for Paramount Plus. “By expanding the universe of these franchises, we are unlocking significant value within ViacomCBS’ treasure chest of IP, and this is just the beginning.”
