The Jim Cummings/PJ McCabe dark comedy is full of twists, turns, and everything you’d expect from a contemporary thriller, and we’re here to unpack what really happens in the end.

The Beta Test follows Jordan (Cummings), a married Hollywood agent who receives a mysterious letter inviting him to a bizarre sexual encounter. After he accepts, his world spirals out of control, full of lying, cheating, drugs, and alcohol. If he wants to get his life back on track and fulfill his big movie career dreams, he may already be out of luck.

What happens in the end of The Beta Test?

Jordan finds the anonymous sender behind the letters in The Beta Test, Johnny, who has been mailing out these invitations based on addresses unveiled in The Sony Hacks. He says that Jordan must not have received the third letter, which would’ve asked him to wire $5,000 to reveal the identity of the woman he had sex with.

Jordan returns home to burn the letter, but his wife Caroline catches him in the act and calls him out. He confesses to her, also revealing he’s been living a lie, and accepts the fact that she should kill him. But she doesn’t. Why not?

What does the ending of The Beta Test mean? The Beta Test ending, explained:

Caroline did the exact same thing. She received a letter and cheated. The pair make amends and agree to get through it together. Later, in the future, the pair are still together and read about the scandal in which they were both scammed. At the very end, a waitress hands Jordan her number. Seems his scamming and flirting may not be over yet.
