If you watched to the end of the credits for Netflix’s new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, you’re no doubt expecting there to be another Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel on Netflix. After all, the post-credits scene of this slasher film—which is the ninth installment in the Texas Chainsaw franchise, but serves as a direct sequel to the first film from 1974—sets up the promise of a new story featuring the infamous Leatherface.
For those who missed it, the after-credits scene shows Leatherface limping down a dirt road with his chainsaw, toward a quaint little farmhouse with a windmill. Sharp-eyed viewers will recognize that house as the same house where Leatherface lived with his brother and their grandfather in the first movie, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, way back in 1974. (That farmhouse where the original film was shot is still standing, and is now a restaurant in Kingsland, Texas, where fans of the movie can dine.)
So what’s the deal with a Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel? Will there be more Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies? Here’s what we know.
WILL THERE BE A TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE SEQUEL ON NETFLIX? WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT FUTURE TEXAS CHAINSAW MOVIES:
The short answer is: We don’t know. There has been no official word on the tenth Texas Chainsaw Massacre film from Netflix or anywhere else. However, the director of the 2022 Texas Chainsaw Massacre said in a recent interview that the idea of a sequel was “on the table,” and that he hoped he could return to flesh out more ideas he has for the franchise.
“Yeah, that’s always on the table,” said director David Blue Garcia in an interview with Rue-Morgue.com, when he was asked if he would return for another Texas Chainsaw movie. “I have a lot of ideas that didn’t get used in this film, or things I thought of too late. So I’d love to come back for another and try out some of those.”
Whether or not Netflix will greenlight a sequel likely depends on how well the movie does on the streaming service. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see whether Leatherface is going to reunite with his family.
