‘Arthur’ Finale: PBS’ Iconic Series Comes To And End After 25 Seasons

What a wonderful kind of day to bid farewell to Arthur! The beloved PBS show officially wrapped up on Monday after 25 seasons, marking the end of the longest-running animated kids’ series on TV.

The series finale flashes into the future, revealing what the Elwood City gang are up to as adults. In a very meta twist, Arthur grows up to become a graphic novelist who basically just writes the Arthur series all over again. The rest of the gang have also landed their dream gigs, from Muffy running for mayor to Buster working as a teacher to D.W. becoming some kind of cop. Here’s hoping that Mr. Ratburn is still gay rat married!

Arthur coming to an end is certainly bittersweet, but don’t worry! This isn’t the complete end of the series as we know it. PBS recently promised new Arthur content in the form of a podcast, video shorts, and a stream of the show’s 250+ episodes on PBS Kids.

“It has been a privilege to work with an extraordinary and talented team to bring Arthur to public television audiences for more than two decades,” said Carol Greenwald, Senior Executive Producer of GBH Kids, in a statement. “We’re excited about Arthur’s next chapter — sharing the stories and experiences of Arthur and his Elwood City community to the media platforms where the next generation of kids and families will connect with them for years to come.”
