Bill Maher Compares Russia-Ukraine War To Kanye West & Kim Kardashian Feud On ‘Real Time’

Last night on HBO‘s Real Time with Bill Maher, which was the show’s final episode before a short break, the host expectedly tackled the tragic Russia-Ukraine war that is currently underway.

Maher noted that his audience was likely required to wear masks for the last time which is opposite to Vladimir Putin since for us, “eventually the mask comes off.” He claimed that the Russian President’s reasoning for invading Ukraine was to prevent them from trying to acquire weapons of mass destruction. “What kind of superpower makes up shit like that?” said Maher, an obvious critique of the US invasion of Iraq.

Maher somehow found humor in an otherwise bleak situation by making a somewhat realistic analogy. “Russia is Kanye. Ukraine is Kim Kardashian. NATO is Pete Davidson. The relationship between Ukraine (Kardashian) and NATO (Davidson) just drives Russia crazy. Just last week, Russia demanded Billie Eilish apologize to Travis Scott,” Maher said jokingly.

Later on during Maher’s panel discussion, New York Times columnist Brett Stephens said aid to Ukraine “shouldn’t end at sanctions,” and compared the current situation to “Czechoslovakia in 1938.”

Maher said he felt that if we don’t send troops, we’re just talking, but Stephens countered that the Soviet Union fell without troops being sent.

He advocated ramping up the sanctions in hopes that an accumulation of hardship will create issues that, “at some point, Russians will see they were swindled by their leadership.”
