It’s been a season full of hospital shootouts, megachurch deals, and standoffs between old men, but The Righteous Gemstones has finally come to an end. And after that finale, we know you have one question on your mind. Will there be more from this toxic family goldmine?

On that front, we have you covered. Here’s everything we know about The Righteous Gemstones Season 3 as well as a refresher about how Season 2 ended. We’re not making fights here, just spitting truth.

Will The Righteous Gemstones Have a Season 3?

It sure will. In January of this year, HBO announced that a third season of Danny McBride’s black comedy will be happening.

“After a season of literal fire and brimstone, blood, sand and rollerblading, who wouldn’t come back for more?” Amy Gravitt, HBO’s Executive Vice President of Programming, said in a press release. “The Gemstone family makes us laugh like nobody else.”

When Will The Righteous Gemstones Season 3 Premiere?

This is where things get a little complicated. The comedy first premiered in August of 2019, and it was renewed for a Season 2 a month later. That season didn’t premiere until January of 2022. Though a new installment was ordered in 2019, Season 2 didn’t go into production until April of 2021.

Based on that history, it likely takes about two years to make a new season of The Righteous Gemstones. If that’s right, we can possibly expect to see Season 3 in 2024. Here’s hoping that timeline gets bumped up a notch.

How Does The Righteous Gemstones Season 2 End?

Get ready for some spoilers. At the end of the day, all of Season 2’s backstabbing, thieving, and murders came down to one man: Lyle Lissons (Eric André).

See, Lyle was the one who was working with the journalist Thaniel (Jason Schwartzman) and feeding him information on other religious bigwigs. But their deal didn’t last long. When Lyle refused to give Thaniel dirt on the Gemstones, Thaniel threatened to tell the world his secrets. Lyle and a band of his men showed up at Thaniel’s house in the middle of the night to threaten him into doing what they wanted, but things got out of hand. Thaniel ended up shooting himself, three of Lyle’s men killed themselves via grenade, and Lyle had to burn the place down and knock off two more of his men to cover his tracks. That was strike one.

Strike two had to do with Eli Gemstone (John Goodman). Lyle was the one who sent a band of motorcycle boys to murder Eli. Why? So that Jesse (Danny McBride) would be free of his father’s tyranny. Lyle confessed to everything at the groundbreaking of Zion’s Landing, which led to a horrified Jesse slingshotting him until he was unconscious.

But it was Lyle’s wife Lindy (Jessica Lowe) who delivered strike three. Thinking that he had just murdered Lyle, Jesse summoned his family to help him figure out what he should do with the body. That’s when Lindy shot BJ (Tim Baltz) and threatened the rest of the family at gun point. They could either stand their ground and she’d kill BJ or they could walk into the ocean, letting Lyle and Lindy get away. The Gemstones chose the latter, but don’t worry. The Gemstones always come out on top.

One month later, the final chapter of this installment saw Jesse, Kelvin (Adam Devine), and Judy (Edi Patterson) singing for their congregation as Eli got his revenge. His own band of snow mobile men tracked down the hiding Lissons, shooting Lindy to death and chasing Lyle onto a frozen lake. Season 2 ended with Lyle Lissons frozen to death about to be devoured by wolves. It’s a disturbing reminder to never cross the Gemstones. Amen.
