Woman Crush Wednesday: Daisy Edgar-Jones is Sure to Thrill You in Hulu’s ‘Fresh’

Happy March, everybody! It’s hard to believe that by the end of this month, Spring will have already sprung, but you don’t have to wait until then to newness and growth. That’s right, today is Woman Crush Wednesday, a day to go all-in on the spirit of Spring by celebrating the amazing actresses whose refreshing and heartfelt performances help make the newest movies and shows flourish and lighten up our lives. This week, we’re talking about a wonderful woman who has already left her mark on the entertainment industry despite still being in the early years of her professional career. She’s an extremely skilled and captivating actress that you’ll want to keep an eye on in the years to come, but first, make sure to give it up for your WCW, the delightful Daisy Edgar-Jones!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Daisy Edgar-Jones

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Edgar-Jones plays Noa in the Hulu Original title Fresh, which premieres on the platform this Friday, March 4th. This brand new comedy-thriller film follows Noa (Edgar-Jones) after she meets the alluring Steve (Sebastian Stan) at a grocery store and, due to her frustration with dating apps, takes a chance and gives him her number. After their first date, Noa is smitten and accepts Steve’s invitation to a romantic weekend getaway, only to find that her new paramour has been hiding some unusual proclivities and interests. In addition to Edgar-Jones and Stan, Jonica T. Gibbs, Charlotte Le Bon, Dayo Okeniyi, Andrea Bang, and Brett Dier round out the cast of this dating horror story, so make sure to check out their great work by catching Fresh as soon as it drops this week, only on Hulu.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: After studying acting at London’s National Youth Theatre, Edgar-Jones’s professional onscreen career began in 2016 playing Kate in the Christmas special for British sitcom Outnumbered. That same year, the actress cemented herself as a young talent to watch by earning the recurring role of Olivia Marsden in ITV comedy-drama series Cold Feet, on which she worked until 2020. From there, she continued steadily adding to her filmography, accumulating appearances in TV shows like Silent Witness and Gentleman Jack, and earning work in feature films like 2018 drama Pond Life and 2020 TV comedy-drama film Albion. Edgar-Jones’s biggest roles to-date, however, have been her recent star turns as Emily Gresham in sci-fi drama series War of the Worlds and as Marianne Sheridan in hit Hulu romantic-drama Normal People (for which she earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film just last year). The 23 year-old phenom is just getting started and still has so much more success, standout roles, and award-worthy performances to come, so be sure to keep an eye out for her as she continues to crush it throughout the rest of her acting career!

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Luckily, you won’t have to wait too much longer to see more from Edgar-Jones, since the actress already has two different projects currently in the works. Look out for her as Catherine “Kya” Clarke, the lead of mystery-drama film Where the Crawdads Sing, and as Brenda Lafferty, a main character in true crime-drama series Under the Banner of Heaven. Both titles have top-notch casts that boast talent like Edgar-Jones, David Strathairn, Garret Dillahunt, Harris Dickinson, Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Wyatt Russell, and Rory Culkin, and are set to be released this year, so stay on the lookout for them in the coming months.

For even more from Edgar-Jones while you wait, be sure to follow her on Instagram and Twitter to keep up with the latest on your world-class WCW!
