PBS Announces ‘Call the Midwife’ Season 11 Premiere Date

PBS has announced the premiere date for Season 11 of the critically acclaimed series Call the Midwife. The next season, which will debut on March 20, picks up right after the events of December 2021’s Christmas Special episode.

Last we saw Lucille (Leonie Elliot) and Cyril (Zephryn Taitte) they were getting married on Boxing Day despite the wedding not going exactly as planned. The team of nurses, midwives, and nuns working at Nonnatus House—a London nursing convent—will return for a landmark tenth overall year on air.

While there is not yet an official trailer, we have some details on the synopsis for you. Season 11 will explore the late 60s and how two major events impact the Nonnatus House team: an Easter parade and the Eurovision song contest. Fans will also get to see Lucille and Cyril finally settle down as well as Nancy (Megan Cusack) sporting the signature red cardigan for the very first time after passing the midwifery exams. The forthcoming episodes are also expected to reveal the aftermath of the shocking train accident in the Season 10 finale.

The upcoming season will consist of eight episodes premiering weekly through May 8.

Check out the official synopsis for the first episode below:

Following an eventful holiday special, the series picks up in the spring of 1967, where celebrations are underway for a colorful Easter bonnet parade outside Nonnatus House. Sister Monica Joan and Reggie are excited about the Eurovision song contest, while Cyril and Lucille settle into blissful married life. Nancy, having just passed her midwifery examinations, is about to don her red cardigan for the first time, and Sister Frances examines a newly married woman who presents some troubling symptoms. Derek and Audrey Fleming return to Poplar with good news. Builders demolishing a nearby tenement block make a shocking discovery that has a heartbreaking effect on the team.

Season 11 of Call the Midwife will be available to stream on all PBS platforms, including PBS.org and the PBS Video App. If you can’t wait until March 20, you can actually have access to episodes a week before they air via the premiere subscription package PBS Passport.

Created by two-time Emmy nominee and British producer and screenwriter Heidi Thomas (Little Women), Call the Midwife is critically acclaimed for its ability to tackle serious and controversial issues such as prejudice, miscarriage, religion, and many more.
