Colin Farrell To Star In HBO Max Limited Series ‘The Penguin’

Colin Farrell has earned rave reviews for his portrayal as the sinister villain the Penguin – also known as Oswald Cobblepot – in director Matt ReevesThe Batman. And today, HBO Max confirmed that Farrell will reprise his role as Penguin in a new limited series on the channel.

The new series will be executive produced by Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, and Lauren LeFranc, who will write and act as showrunner. There is no official word on the story the series will tell, but Farrell hints that it follows Penguin’s trajectory to becoming the villain that he is. “The world that Matt Reeves created for The Batman is one that warrants a deeper gaze through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot. I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. Will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem,” Farrell says.

Reeves adds, “Colin exploded off the screen as the Penguin in The Batman, and having the chance to thoroughly explore the inner life of that character on HBO Max is an absolute thrill. Dylan and I are so excited to work with Lauren in continuing Oz’s story as he grabs violently for power in Gotham.”

The Batman, which was releases in theaters on March 4, stars Robert Pattinson as Batman, and co-stars Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Barry Keoghan as Officer Stanley Merkel. There’s no word yet on whether any of these characters will appear in the new series, and a premiere date for the show has not yet been announced.
