‘Peaky Blinders’ Season 6 is Coming to Netflix in June

The sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders already has begun airing in the UK on BBC One, and now, Netflix has confirmed that all six episodes will hit the streaming giant on June 10. Looks like the Shelby clan has one final story to tell on the telly… Although Aunt Polly’s real-life death has impacted how that story ultimately plays out.

Debuting in 2013 on BBC Two, and 2014 on Netflix, Peaky Blinders stars Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, a World War I hero who comes back to Birmingham, England, with even bigger aspirations for his local crime gang. Returning cast members for Season 6 include Tom Hardy, Paul Anderson, Finn Cole, Anya Taylor-Joy, Sophie Rundle, and Sam Claflin. New for this season: Emma actress Amber Anderson (playing a new adversary to Tommy) and The Irishman actor Stephen Graham. Sadly, Helen McCrory, who played Aunt Polly, died of cancer last April.

“She would have been in [Season] 6 if the pandemic hadn’t put everything on hold,” Murphy told The Guardian. “Helen was the heart of that show and it was hard to make it without her.”

The first episode of Season 6 is dedicated to her.

“I think the whole series is really in tribute to her and to honor her,” Murphy told Variety. “Her presence and her character’s presence are very much still felt in the series, and it is very much part of Tommy’s journey in the season. It’ll be different without her, you know. It simply won’t be the same. I’ve spoken about how phenomenal she was as an actress and as a person and it is an enormous loss to the whole acting community and not just for our show. My thoughts are always with [husband] Damian [Lewis] and her kids. I just hope that the show will live up to her memory and our memory of her.”

No matter how it all ends on Netflix, the Shelby saga will go on, albeit on the big screen. A feature film adaptation is expected to go into production next year.
