Prime Video Scores First Weekly Nielsen TV Ratings Win With ‘Reacher’

How big can Reacher‘s reach get? We’re about to find out, as after logging a record number of eyeballs to Amazon Prime Video in its first week, Alan Ritchson’s brash brawling former MP on the prowl for justice became the first Prime Video series ever to top Nielsen’s Weekly Streaming Top 10 report.
Measured for the week ending February 13, 2022, the series based on the “Jack Reacher” books by Lee Child topped the charts with an impressive 1.589 billion minutes viewed, besting all comers from Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu. Of note, though this is the first time Amazon’s streamer has topped Nielsen’s chart with an original TV series, Reacher was actually mildly down from the previous week, where the series garnered 1.843 billion minutes in a jaw-dropping three days.
Also of note, this is not the first time Prime Video has topped the Nielsen report, though it the first for a streaming original series. Way back in April, 2021, Coming 2 America hit the top spot.

Other highlights from this week’s Nielsen Streaming report:

  • Netflix’s Inventing Anna, which premiered Feb. 11 with nine episodes, boasted 1.219 billion viewing minutes (fourth overall). But the most impressive mover on the charts was Sweet Magnolias, bolstered by a second 10-episode season drop on Feb. 4 (and maybe a desire to see what Jamie Lynn Spears is up to?!?), landing second overall in viewing minutes with 1.556 billion. Ozark continues to chug along in the gap between final-season episode drops, with 1.222 billion minutes.
  • Disney+ saw the season finale of The Book of Boba Fett that week, and with it, increased interest to the tune of 885 million viewing minutes (sixth overall).
  • Hulu’s Pam & Tommy, which premiered Feb. 2, fell out of the top 10, a week after logging 312 million minutes.
  • On the movie side of streaming, Disney+’s Encanto, shows no sign of slowing those Bruno singalongs in your family’s household, with another 1.183 billion minutes spent watching and singing (fifth in the overall rankings). That’s well more than double the time spent watching the second most-popular movie on streaming, Netflix’s The Tinder Swindler, which premiered on Feb. 2 and scored 480 million minutes. Other new movies that debuted in the tracking week? Tall Girl 2 on Netflix (195 million); I Want You Back, the Charlie Day and Jenny Slate rom-com for Prime Video (149 million); The Privilege, Netflix’s German supernatural thriller (163 million).
  • But none of the movies not named Encanto got as many viewers as this catalog content on Netflix that rounded out the overall top 10 rankings: NCIS, Raising Dion, Cocomelon, Criminal Minds.
