Apple TV+ Magic Johnson Docuseries ‘They Call Me Magic’ Debuts First Official Trailer

Apple TV+ has debuted the first official trailer for its forthcoming docuseries They Call Me Magic, a look inside the life and career of basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson.

The four-part documentary series chronicles Johnson’s journey from basketball legend, playing for the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers, to becoming a community activist and raising awareness about HIV following his diagnosis and subsequent retirement.

They Call Me Magic premiered on Saturday at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.

Directed by Rick Famuyiwa (The Mandalorian), the series features old footage as well as new interviews with Johnson, his family, and many other big names familiar with Johnson and his legacy including Larry Bird, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neil, President Obama, Fred Stabley Jr., Dwayne Wade, Jerry West and Michael Wilbon.

Apple TV+ has been on a documentary kick as of late, with this original title joining the Emmy-winning Boys State, The Velvet Underground, Beastie Boys Story and Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry.

They Call Me Magic will be available to stream on April 22 on Apple TV+.
