Kim Dickens Returns as Madison Clark in New ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ Trailer

She’s back, baby! While most of the brand new trailer for the second half of Fear the Walking Dead Season 7 focuses on one member of the Clark family, Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), the biggest reveal is saved for the end: Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) is finally back on Fear! Though by the looks of it, she may be in serious trouble.

The bulk of the new look focuses as the bubbling conflict between Alicia and Strand (Colman Domingo), which was set up in the midseason finale. Strand has built a dictatorship inside his Tower stronghold, choosing who will be allowed to join him, and throwing the rest off the roof. Meanwhile, Alicia has lost an arm (sort of, she grafted the bones back on, it’s pretty gross) and is starting to realize that while her initial search for “PADRE,” a mythical safe-house, might have been a fever dream, it might still be out there somewhere.

But first, she needs to gather the scattered remains of Fear‘s group back together for one last stand against Strand. A Strand stand, if you will.

Back to Madison, though. Last seen in the Season 4 midseason finale, Dickens’ character was killed off luring a herd of the undead into an abandoned stadium, seemingly consumed by the zombies as well as a massive fire. Despite this, fans have held out hope that she would return, and in December of 2021, the news was officially announced that Dickens was back. And not only that, she’ll be a regular on the show starting next season.

“If there were a Mt. Deadmore, Kim Dickens’ face would be on it. Madison Clark is a foundational character to TWDU — heroic, complex, an everyperson who becomes a warrior and then a force of benevolence,” Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe, said via a statement provided to Decider. “Kim Dickens’ raw talent, strength, and brilliance will electrify TWDU once more and we couldn’t be luckier to have her back.”

Now, we know at least a little bit about the circumstances we’ll find Madison in when she returns. In the brief look, she’s seen breathing through an oxygen mask, and dragging one foot — perhaps a result of the fire? She also has some new ink, specifically the names of her children Alicia and Nick (Frank Dillane) on each wrist. Where is the ink for her husband Travis (Cliff Curtis)? I guess we’ll never know.

As she sits at a metal table, a distorted voice through a loud-speaker asks, “What’s your name?” She answers, “Madison,” to which the voice replies, “Not anymore. We will tell you who you are going to be from now on.”

So when does this take place? Where has Madison been? And who will she be when she encounters Alicia, Strand and the rest once again? We’ll just have to find out when the show returns on April 17 at 9/8c on AMC. The first two episodes of the new season will stream that night on AMC+, and a week early thereafter, starting Sunday, April 24. You can watch the full trailer above.
