Harlan Coben’s YA Action-Thriller ‘Shelter’ Is Headed To Prime Video

Prime Video is expanding its YA library. Today, Amazon Studios gave a series order to Shelter, an action-thriller based on Harlan Coben‘s Mickey Bolitar novels. Filming on the show’s pilot previously wrapped at the end of 2021.

Shelter follows high school junior Mickey (played by Colin in Black and White star Jaden Michael) as he navigates his new life with a mom in rehab, a dead dad, an annoying aunt, and a new school in New Jersey with a camel as its mascot. After a lady who may or may not be a ghost pops up to tell him that his dad isn’t actually dead, Mickey assumes he’s losing his mind and instead focuses on befriending new student Ashley Kent. But when Ashley goes missing, Mickey discovers that her and his father’s disappearances are connected to a terrifying conspiracy.

Shelter’s previously announced cast also includes Constance Zimmer as Shira Bolitar, Adrian Greensmith as Arthur “Spoon” Spindell, Abby Corrigan as Ema Winslow, and Sage Linder as Rachel Caldwell, with Brian Altemus joining the cast as Troy.

Coben is the best-selling author of over 35 novels, including The Boy From The Woods, Tell No One, and Win. Additionally, he serves as the creator and executive producer of numerous Netflix dramas, including Stay Close, The Stranger, Gone For Good, and The Woods. This series marks his first Prime Video partnership.

“It is such an honor to be working with this exciting young cast and our partners at Prime Video and MGM,” Coben said in a statement to Decider. “I truly believe we will make something special.”

“Rich with young adult and coming-of-age themes, the story is so special because of how it resonates across all demographics, which is what Harlan does best,” Amazon Studios head of global television Vernon Sanders said in a statement of his own. “From the original Myron Bolitar series to Mickey’s journey of resilience and self-discovery, Harlan is a wiz at creating sharp, distinct characters and we’re thrilled to team up with him, MGM Television, and the very talented Jaden Michael, who we know will do an incredible job of bringing Mickey Bolitar to life.”

Coben serves as executive producer of Shelter, with MGM’s Rola Bauer overseeing the series for Amazon Studios.
