‘Ms. Marvel’: Disney+ Series Debuts First Trailer, Sets June Premiere Date

Meet Kamala Khan! Today, Disney+ released the trailer for Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel, along with news that the series will launch on the streamer this June.

Ms. Marvel stars Iman Vellani as Kamala, a Muslim American teen from Jersey City who’s obsessed with all things superheroes — especially Captain Marvel. But she feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home.

“It’s not really the brown girls from Jersey City who save the world,” Kamala says wistfully at one point.

But sometimes it is! Kamala’s life gets turned upside down when she suddenly gets the superpowers she’s always dreamed of, introducing  a series of brand new thrills and growing pains.

Featuring an infectious cover of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” the show immediately gives off high school vibes more in line with the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies than previous Disney+ Marvel shows. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kamala writes Spider-Man fanfiction.

The Ms. Marvel cast also includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Linz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha.

Episodes are directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Bisha K. Ali are executive producers. Ali serves as head writer.

Ms. Marvel premieres Wednesday, June 8, on Disney+. Scroll up to watch the trailer.
