‘The View’ Blasts Anna Sorokin Fans Amid Rise Of Scammer TV: “Can’t Even Talk About This Broad”

From Netflix‘s Inventing Anna to Hulu’s The Dropout, television is experiencing an onslaught of stories about real-life scammers. But do these portrayals do more harm than good? That’s a question the ladies of The View considered on today’s episode, as they asked why figures like faux German heiress Anna Sorokin (aka Anna Delvey) have received unlikely adoration.

The panel kicked things off by discussing Sorokin’s recent appearance on the popular podcast Call Her Daddy. Sorokin, who is currently being held in Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, claimed that she’s received “more marriage proposals” than ever since Inventing Anna was released. And that’s not all! She revealed that even in jail, she’s paying people to do her laundry.

“I want this chick nominated for a Best Actress Oscar,” guest host Ana Navarro joked. “She’s in jail, and she’s treating people like doodoo. If you wanna marry this woman, just be ready! Because you’re a masochist, and she’s gonna treat you like a minion.”

As fellow guest host Alyssa Farah pointed out, there’s a long history of people indulging in jail fetishes — Charles Manson got married while in prison, while Elizabeth Holmes got married and had a baby in jail.

Between Sorokin and Holmes, Navarro joked that Netflix should change the title of Orange Is The New Black to “Orange Is The New White.”

Meanwhile, Sunny Hostin was confused about why people were interested in Sorokin at all.

“This is someone that has the lowest moral character,” she said. “And to have someone propose, it’s a sickness.”

Farah echoed Hostin’s sentiments, saying, “These are the people we should be deporting.”

“I don’t love that Anna Delvey is making money off of this series,” Farah added. “She defrauded banks, she committed check fraud, she stole from her friends. I don’t love that for her.”

An exasperated Whoopi Goldberg had the final word on the matter.

“If people are really upset about people who have been here too long or maybe didn’t get here ‘the right way,’ let’s start removing the ones that you catch who you can’t tell [are criminals] walking down the street,” she said. “I can’t even talk about this broad. I’m done.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
