Jessica Biel and Melanie Lynskey are taking on the terrifying true story of Candy Montgomery. Yesterday (March 17), Hulu released the first teaser trailer for its five-episode limited series Candy, which explores how the seemingly ordinary 1980 housewife (Biel) murdered her next-door neighbor Betty Gore (Lynskey) with an axe.

“I had no angry feelings towards her if that’s what the question is,” Biel’s Candy says as she’s on the stand. “We were… friends.”

In real life, a rift grew between the two women after Candy pursued an affair with Betty’s husband, Alan Gore. But when Betty found out a few years later, she was soon found dead in her home, struck 41 times by an axe. If You Season 3’s portrait of suburban murderers was up your alley, Candy could be the show for you.

In addition to Biel and Lynskey, the series also stars Timothy Simons as Candy’s husband Pat Montgomery, Pablo Schreiber as Alan Gore, and Raúl Esparza as a lawyer working on Candy’s case.

Candy was created by Robin Veith (Mad Men, The Act). Nick Antosca, Veith, and Biel serve as executive producers alongside Alex Hedlund, Michelle Purple, and Michael Uppendahl.

The show is one of two projects based on the Candy Montgomery case set to debut this year. HBO Max is set to release the series Love & Death, starring Elizabeth Olsen as Candy and Lily Rabe as Betty.

Candy premieres May 9, on Hulu, with subsequent episodes airing daily until the finale on May 13. Scroll up to watch the official teaser trailer.
