Sunny Hostin Snaps at Lindsey Granger Over Audience Response to Contentious Critical Race Theory Debate on ‘The View’

The View‘s guest co-host Lindsey Granger, of Daily Blast Live, ruffled feathers on the show yesterday (March 22) with her stance about critical race theory. And today, she doubled down on the topic.

Critical race theory is one of the many issues hanging over the Supreme Court confirmation hearing of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, and it’s a controversial issue among The View panel as well. Jackson is on a school board at a Washington D.C. that permits CRT to be taught, and she has been asked where she stands on the issue. During a discussion on the show yesterday, Granger said, “Critical race theory as it stands… needs to be downsized for 7-year-olds.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin interrupted her to say, “It’s not being taught to 7-year-olds. We wanna teach kids about African American history,” to which Granger replied, “I have a 6-month-old daughter, she needs to understand Black excellence. She needs to see more of that.”

Today on the show, Granger doubled down on her comments that Black children need to learn “Black excellence,” and not “victimization of Black people.”

“I want to see Black people thrive. We are not victims, okay? Even though we have been victimized, we are not victims. We are here to grow, and there’s beauty in us, and we are winning out here. So I want to see that more often. And I don’t want to constantly tell my 6-month-old daughter that she’s a victim.” She also added, “We’re learning about the victimization of Black people consistently. That’s a fact. And so I think looking at how law applies to Black people, and victimizes them through race, right, and how race applies to law is important to do, but also celebrating Blackness. We don’t do it enough in school. That’s not my experience.”

Hostin, who made no attempt to hide her frustration with Granger, did her homework for this segment and took the conversation even further, putting Granger on blast. “What you have to understand, Lindsey, is that the Republican agenda is to not only stop teaching about slavery, but also to not teach about Black excellence. That is what is happening. Books are being banned. Learning systems are being restricted all over this country. And so when you say things like, ‘Black people are being victimized,’ you’re parroting their talking points. You’ve got to be really careful about that.”

When co-host Sara Haines interrupted to point out that critical race theory has become “an umbrella term for some other things that are happening,” Hostin added that “it’s only becoming an umbrella term because Republicans are making it that way and people like Lindsey are buying into it.”

As the audience clapped for Hostin, Granger shushed them, saying “Don’t clap for that.”

Hostin, without making eye contact, replied, “They can clap for whatever they want to clap for.”

Today was Granger’s last day on the panel, but considering that Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearing will face one more day of hearings in front of the Senate, we’re sure the heated conversations and political debates will rage on on The View.
