Love is in the air this spring–in part thanks to the steamy hit series Bridgerton. Author Julia Quinn’s bestselling novel series is back for a second season on Netflix this week, and if you can’t get enough of the Bridgerton brothers, we totally feel your pain. There’s more than one way to live the adventures of this charming family–and it’s in the form of the books.
If you haven’t read them, you’re in for a wonderful, emotional roller coaster as dramatic as the series. In fact, if you haven’t streamed the books yet, we strongly recommend that you do so you can relive the highs and lows of Daphne Bridgerton and her rugged Duke of Hastings when you’re not rewatching the series on a new TV. 'The Duke and I'
The first season of the series was based on the first book, and follows Daphne Bridgerton as she enters her “sham” relationship with the Duke of Hastings. It’s only 12 hours and nine minutes of streaming, but each minute will have you captivated thanks to Rosalyn Landor’s narration.
'The Viscount Who Loved Me'
This is the book that follows the newest season of Bridgerton, and you can expect a lot of ups and downs with the elusive bachelor Anthony Bridgerton. One factor he didn’t count on? Kate Sheffield, elder sister to the sister he prefers to woo. If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the series, no plan goes swimmingly (pardon the pun), and you can expect some choppy waters as they navigate around each other in high society.
'An Offer From A Gentleman'
Cinderella fans will love this retelling of Benedict’s love story. Sophie Beckett, the illegitimate daughter of an earl, goes to a masquerade ball–and catches the eye of Benedict Bridgerton. After the ball, he makes it his mission to locate this mysterious woman who captured his heart at first sight. Wondering how Sophie feels about all of this hunt? You’ll have to stream it to find out.
'Romancing Mister Bridgerton'
Penelope Featherington is our dearest darling in the hit series. Book 4 finally tells her story as we see her pining for (Spoilers!) throughout the second season of the series. When the gentleman in question returns from a trip in London, he uncovers a major coverup on her part that affects the entire ton, and she discovers his biggest secret. Stream on to find out if love can conquer the biggest secrets of all.
'To Sir Phillip, With Love'
Eloise is finally grown up and–gasp!–a spinster. So when she agrees to marry a man she has only written to in letters, she takes a huge gamble. They butt heads immediately as Eloise is not what Sir Phillip Crane expected and vice versa, but if we know anything in the Bridgerton world, nothing is as it seems, and they may be able to find true love in the web they just spun.
'When He Was Wicked'
Michael Stirling ran into a big problem: as soon as the rake met the love of his life, she got married. The woman? None other than our Francesca Bridgerton. Now a widow, Francesca considers Michael a close confidante and friend. Trying to convince her that he’s a serious suiter will be harder than this reformed rake thinks.
'It's In His Kiss'
Hyacinth’s story puts her wits and intelligence at the forefront of the plot. When she meets Gareth St. Clair at the annual Smythe/Smith musicale, they decide to translate an old family diary from Italian to English and (hopefully) save his inheritance from ruin. But close quarters pouring over a book are sure to warm a few hearts, and these two will have more to address than the diary after a while.
'On The Way To The Wedding'
The finale tale of the Bridgertons brings us to Gregory’s tale of romance combines an Emma-like plot and adds some wild complications. Our female protagonist, Lucinda Abernathy, plays matchmaker to Gregory and her good friend Hermione Watson and offers to help Gregory woo her. The chemistry between Gregory and Lucinda is too strong, and with her engagement to another man, time is not on their side. He’ll have to risk it all if he wants to have Lucy for his wife.
