‘Inventing Anna’ Once Again Dominates Nielsen’s Top 10 Streaming List

We don’t talk about Bruno, but we cannot stop watching Anna. For the week ending Feb. 27, 2022, Netflix’s Inventing Anna remained by far the most popular series or movie for streaming viewers, according to Nielsen’s Weekly Streaming Top 10. With just north of 2 Billion viewing minutes that week (2,084 million), Julia Garner’s portrayal of grifter Anna Delvey (aka Anna Sorokin) once again outpaced the week’s second-most popular streaming show, still Netflix’s Love Is Blind, by almost double.
Love Is Blind registered 1.369 billion viewing minutes, only a slight drop from 1.439 billion, in its third week of availability for Season 2. It helped that Netflix began staggering episode releases in batches throughout the month to maintain interest among binge-watchers.
Among new releases, Netflix found winning numbers for both Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming (the twelfth Madea movie from Tyler Perry and his second for the streamer), as well as for Vikings sequel, Vikings: ValhallaValhalla, which follows Lief Erickson and his like 100 years after the events depicted in the History Channel’s Vikings, stormed out of the gates with 796 million minutes of viewing for its first eight episodes, which dropped Feb. 25. That put the show ninth overall, and fourth among original streaming series. Madea’s Homecoming broke the billion-minute mark for views in its opening weekend on Netflix, second only to, you guessed it, Disney+’s Encanto. Encanto scored its 10th consecutive week with more than a billion minutes of viewing and singing.
The only other movie to make the Billion Minute Club for the final week of February? The premiere of Free Guy on Disney+. The movie, starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular Guy who finds out from Jodie Comer that he’s an actual video game character, attracted 1.025 billion viewing minutes. But that might be underselling this Guy’s popularity, as the movie also debuted Feb. 22 on HBO Max. And the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 doesn’t include any stats from HBO Max. So his high score is presumably even higher!

As for the other SVOD providers tracked by Nielsen, Prime Video still had two series bringing viewers over to Amazon at the end of February.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, by releasing two episodes per week, grew its overall viewership from 499 million minutes when Season 4 debuted, then upped it 44 percent to 719 million minutes over the second week of viewing. Reacher, meanwhile, dropped from 935 million to 687 million minutes, enough for sixth-place among original series, but dropping out of the overall Top 10.

The overall Top 10 streaming shows and movies for the week ending Feb. 27:

  1. Inventing Anna (Netflix), 9 episodes, 2.084 billion viewing minutes
