Bru-NO! Megan Thee Stallion’s Oscars Performance Of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” Was A Disaster

There are two audiences who don’t respond well to not getting what they want: Children and Academy Award viewers. So when you promise a performance of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” and what you deliver is a remixed version that changed up the song’s lyrics and includes the addition of several notable (but unnecessary) guest performers, you’re going to make literally everyone watching your broadcast unhappy.

On tonight’s Oscars, the beloved song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” featured in Encanto (which is not actually nominated in the Best Category, though the original song “Dos Oruguitas” is) was introduced by the man who plays Bruno in the film, John Leguizamo.

It started off well enough, with most of the animated film’s cast taking the stage to sing the song written by Lin-Manuel Miranda that has topped the Billboard Global charts. But someone couldn’t leave well enough alone and brought in Meagan Thee Stallion to add in a verse, and then they changed the whole damn chorus to “We don’t talk about Oscar” and just no. This is not what anyone asked for. But even when you think you’re doing something nice like adding in stars like Meagan, Fonsi, and Becky G, people will get angry. Real angry.

First off, it’s not like they just added a verse and left the rest of the song as it should have been. No, what we got was an abbreviated version that cut out some of the song’s best parts.

Look, Academy producers. Surely some of you have children. These are people who will refuse to eat an entire plate of food if any of the ingredients are touching. So why would you change up the one thing they hold dear that they can actually enjoy during your broadcast? Listen to the children!

But the performance was not all bad. They had Sheila E on drums! Oh wait, just when I was going to at least give someone some credit for that, I read this and now I’m mad again. Bruno will certainly be feasting on the screams of everyone who watched tonight.
