‘Umbrella Academy’: Elliot Page Will Play Viktor Hargreeves in Season 3

Elliot Page, star of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, made a big announcement today with regard to his character on the show: As of Season 3, Vanya Hargreeves will now be known as Viktor Hargreeves. Viktor is one of seven children all mysteriously born on the same day, who were then adopted by a rich eccentric named Sir Reginald Hargreeves. While the other six all have special superpowers including things like super strength and mind control, which Reginald helped them harness and manipulate. Viktor’s (a.k.a. Number 7) power to convert sound into a physical force was suppressed by Reginald, who had concerns about how to control them.

Posting to Twitter today, Page, who came out as transgender in 2020 announced his character’s name change with a photo from the new season.

Netflix’s LGBTQIA studio, Most, also posted the news, which fans greeted happily, with many expressing relief that Page would not have to continue to portray a female character.

The Umbrella Academy‘s second season ended in 2020 prior to Page’s disclosure of his new gender identity, and we’re excited by the fact that the show is one of the first series ever to make a character change like this by taking Page’s identity into account. The much-anticipated third season will premiere on June 22 on Netflix.
