When Is ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Going To Be Released?

An all-new trailer for Tom Cruise‘s long-awaited Top Gun: Maverick is out today, bringing us right back to our favorite place: the Danger Zone. The sequel to the original Top Gun film, which came out in 1986, has been delayed for a couple years now thanks to production delays as well as COVID-19. Here’s what we know about Top Gun: Maverick‘s release so far.

What is Top Gun: Maverick about?

In the brand-new trailer for Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise returns as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, once a great fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy. Mitchell returns to teach a new squadron of pilots who will be preparing for a special mission. One of those students, played by Miles Teller, is Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s best friend, Goose (Anthony Edwards), who died in the original film. (Meg Ryan will not be returning to play Goose’s widow, Carole, in the sequel, the role will be played this time by Jean Louisa Kelly). We do know that Val Kilmer will be returning to play Maverick’s biggest rival, Iceman, and the film will also star Jon Hamm, Manny Jacinto, and Jennifer Connelly.

When is Top Gun: Maverick going to be released?

Top Gun: Maverick will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, and will arrive in theaters on May 27, 2022. Top Gun: Maverick will then stream on Paramount+ following its theatrical run. Typically, Paramount films have been premiering on the Paramount+ streaming platform following a film’s theatrical release window of 30-45 days, which puts Top Gun: Maverick’s arrival somewhere in June or early July 2022, though a specific date hasn’t been confirmed.
