The big argument on today’s episode of The View was between Sunny Hostin and guest host and former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, who hotly debated whether or not it’s okay to call someone a mean name. Their argument about name-calling was in response to Hostin bringing up Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who called out Senators Romney, Murkowski, and Collins for supporting the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, writing that the Senators’ support proved that they are “pro-pedophile.”
Hostin was not here for Greene’s insults, and called her an idiot, which Grisham took issue with, saying that by calling a right-wing Congresswoman an idiot will only incite the far-right’s base and encourage them to vote at the polls. “The more the right… they close ranks and they double down and they will come out voting too,” Grisham said.
“Silence is being complicit,” Hostin argued, defending her choice of words. “Ya gotta call an idiot an idiot when you see the idiot. It think it’s really taking down our country.”
“I’m not saying be silent,” Grisham said. “I agree it’s taking down our country. You can’t call people, Republicans, these names. You can’t denigrate my neighbors in the midwest!”
“Marjorie Taylor Greene is an idiot,” Hostin doubled down. “That’s like, the definition. You open up the dictionary, look up idiot, and you see her picture!”
I gotta ask you a question,” Whoopi Goldberg broke in. Looking at Grisham, she asked, “Do you think it’s idiotic for a Republican to call one of the Bushes a Nazi?”
“I think it… is not a smart answer,” Grisham replied without denouncing the insult entirely. Viewers were quick to call out the double standards, calling out Grisham for working for Donald Trump, a man who is as famous for his insults as he is for being President.
Grisham will likely ruffle more feathers this week, she will return to The View as guest host on Wednesday and Thursday.
