Where to Watch ‘As They Made Us’: Is Mayim Bialik’s Directorial Debut Streaming?

Mayim Bialik has already been working steadily as co-host of Jeopardy, but that doesn’t mean she’s set aside other projects. On top of her stint as game show host, Bialik is still starring in her Fox sitcom Call Me Kat, and she has also written and directed her first feature-length film, As They Made Us. The film is a dramedy starring Hollywood legends Dustin Hoffman and Candice Bergen, as well as Glee‘s Dianna Agron and Bialik’s Big Bang Theory co-star Simon Helberg.

What is As They Made Us about?

The Mayim Bialik movie is about a divorced mother of two named Abigail (Agron) who is struggling with taking care of her kids while exploring a budding romance, all while trying to care for her dying father (Hoffman). Bergman plays Abigail’s mother who remains in denial about her husband’s deteriorating health, and Helberg plays Abigail’s estranged brother.

Bialik has said that the film’s premise came to her after the 2015 death of her own father. “There’s a very specific year of mourning that we do in traditional Judaism. After that year, I felt an urge that I’ve never felt before to start putting down in writing a lot of my experiences and memories of grief. And literally, I ended up with a screenplay. I’ve never written one before,” she said.
