When Does ‘The Batman’ Come To HBO Max?

Throughout 2021, HBO Max subscribers were able to stream Warner Bros. blockbusters like Dune and The Suicide Squad on the same day they hit theaters. But now that it’s 2022, and the studio is releasing major titles like The Batman with exclusive theatrical windows, you may be wondering about how things will work moving forward. Don’t worry — we’ve got you covered.

After getting delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Matt Reeves’ gritty new take on the Caped Crusader was finally released last month. The film has a stacked cast: Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman/Selina Kyle, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin, just to name a few. This new Gotham is looking good!

But as the COVID-19 pandemic continues and The Batman starts exiting theaters, some viewers might be looking to stream The Batman from the comfort of their own homes. Read on to find out where to watch The Batman and when to expect The Batman on HBO Max.

WHEN IS THE BATMAN RELEASE DATE?

The Batman opened in movie theaters on March 4, 2022. You can find tickets at a theater near you here.

WHEN DOES THE BATMAN COME TO HBO MAX?

During an appearance on the Recode podcast, outgoing WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar confirmed that The Batman will hit HBO Max on April 19, 2022 (aka 45 days after its theatrical release).

“Think about when movies would show up on HBO, which is eight to nine months after theatrical premiere,” Kilar said. “The Batman is going to show up on day 46 on HBO Max. That is a huge change from where things were in 2018, 2017, 2016.”

However, the movie will actually hit a day earlier: The Batman will begin streaming on HBO Max on Monday, April 18. Additionally, it will air on HBO on Saturday, April 23 at 8/7c.

WHAT IS THE BATMAN ABOUT?

This isn’t going to be your father’s Caped Crusader movie.

Check out the official synopsis: “The Batman is an edgy, action-packed thriller that depicts Batman in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorized Gotham. Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realization that the anger that’s consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer he’s hunting.”

IS THERE A TRAILER FOR THE BATMAN?

Try three trailers! There’s a teaser trailer in which R-Patz’s Batman says the now-iconic line “I’m vengeance.” Then Warner Bros. unveiled a second, full trailer that gave viewers a much better look at Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, as well as dastardly villains like The Riddler and The Penguin.

In December 2021, fans were gifted with one last trailer centered on “The Bat and the Cat,” which spotlights Bruce and Selina’s tense, sizzling chemistry. Oh, and Bruce’s beloved butler Alfred (Andy Serkis) has apparently been keeping a secret from him! Does this mean Batman’s classic tragic backstory is about to get a rewrite? You’ll have to check out The Batman in theaters or on HBO Max to find out.
