How to Watch Johnny Depp-Amber Heard Trial Day 6 on Streaming

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard‘s divorce has been a messy one. The couple was only married from 2015 to 2016, divorcing after Heard claimed that Depp physically abused her. (Depp has accused Heard of the same.) In 2020, the two found themselves in British court after Depp sued British newspaper The Sun for referring to him as “a wife beater.” He lost that case. Today, the trial continues into its second week.

What is the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial about?

In May, 2016, Amber Heard filed a restraining order against her then-husband, Depp. The couple then filed for divorce that August. In 2018, an op-ed written by Heard titled “I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change” was published in the Washington Post.

In the piece, Heard wrote, “Then two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse,” and she discussed how her decision to go public with her allegations of abuse against Depp hurt her more than they affected him. Though she never named him, she wrote, “I had the rare vantage point of seeing, in real time, how institutions protect men accused of abuse.”

Depp is suing Heard for $50 million for defamation as a result of publishing the article which he says depicts him as an abuser, a claim he continues to deny.
