Kiernan Shipka Says She’s Not Done With Her ‘Mad Men’ Character Sally Draper

Actress Kiernan Shipka, who most recently stars in Roku Channel‘s Swimming With Sharks, has revealed that she is ready to revisit her Mad Men character Sally Draper, nearly 15 years after the popular AMC series aired.

The 22-year-old told Entertainment Tonight that she would be open to reviving the role at some point to explore a grown-up version of Sally, whose parents are Don Draper (Jon Hamm) and Betty Draper (January Jones).

Mad Men, created by Matthew Weiner, earned an Emmy Award for outstanding drama series for four straight years during its run.

“I’m not done with Sally,” Shipka said. “I don’t think she’d be in New York. I think she’d do L.A. … But I’m not done with her at all.”

While it is not clear whether the actress has had talks with her co-stars, producers or the network, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina alum said that she has kept in touch with Hamm. “I always love seeing him,” Shipka said. “I’ve run into him so much lately.” She added about their conversations, “We speak like adults now. It’s great.”

Lionsgate TV COO Sandra Stern revealed back in 2015 that there had been talk of possibly developing a Mad Men spinoff set in the present day. “Given the fact that [Mad Men] ends nearly 50 years ago, most of the characters would be dead,” Stern said at the time. “Sally was the one character young enough that you could see her 30 or 40 years later.”

Although she mentioned even a possible spinoff for Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss), she said “Matt wasn’t comfortable committing to a spinoff.”

Later that year, Hamm told Entertainment Weekly that he could support a spinoff in which Sally comes of age. “I’d watch that show,” he said. “Sally Through the Decades.”
