Will There Be A Season 5 of ‘Attack On Titan’? What’s Next After Season 4

The series finale has come and gone, but anyone who watched the supposed final episode of Attack on Titan: The Final Season earlier this month may have noticed that the story IS NOT OVER! Yes, sadly, fans of the long-running dark action-fantasy anime find themselves being forced to wait a little longer for the epic finale to their beloved series.

But hey, for those who have been with AoT from the start, perhaps another year of waiting is nothing compared to the near decade they’ve already put into following the stories of Eren Yeager (Yuki Kaji), Levi Ackerman (Hiroshi Kamiya), Armin Arlert (Marina Inoue), Mikasa Ackerman (Yui Ishikawa), and more. So, how much longer will fans have to wait for the true end of Attack on Titan, and what form will it come in (a movie? a special? a mini-series?)? Keep on reading to find out everything we know so far.

WILL THERE BE AN ATTACK ON TITAN MOVIE? WILL THERE BE AN ATTACK ON TITAN SEASON 5?

Contrary to what many fans assumed would be the next step for Attack on Titan, especially following the recent and wildly successful worldwide theatrical release of Jujutsu Kaisen‘s film, AoT will NOT, in fact, end with a movie. While both shows are expertly animated by MAPPA, their paths diverge in that it seems there will be no more movies in Attack on Titan‘s future. Indeed, Season 4, Part 2’s final episode confirmed that the show would wrap up once and for all in 2023, and that it will continue its serialized format. Between Season 4, Parts 1 and 2, Attack on Titan has accumulated 28 episodes, and this last part is expected to wrap up the manga’s story within 10 episodes or less, depending on their length and content. Make no mistake, though, the next season is the last one (or else fans just might start a Rumbling of their own).

WHEN WILL ATTACK ON TITAN: SEASON 4, PART 3 PREMIERE?

Naturally, fans want more of their beloved show, and they want it now. Unfortunately, it’s going to take some more waiting to see our ending through, with the final (for real this time) season expected to premiere its first episode in April 2023. The good news is that it will surely be worth the wait, since clearly MAPPA seems dedicated to taking their time in order to give fans an ending they’ll never forget. According to a source on Twitter, Season 4, Part 3 will consist of “4 one hour-long special episodes,” presumably released on a weekly basis by Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu. If that’s the case, then the good news for AoT fans is that once this last part starts rolling, it’s all going to go down pretty swiftly from there. All we need to do now is count down the days until next April.

WHAT WILL ATTACK ON TITAN: SEASON 4, PART 3 BE ABOUT?

Considering how Episode 87:”The Dawn of Humanity” left off, Attack on Titan: Season 4, Part 3 will begin by showing us the full horrors of Eren Yeager’s potentially humanity-ending Rumbling. It will go on from there to depict the tenuously allied remaining Survey Corps and Warrior Unit members as they attempt the monumental and seemingly impossible task of stopping Eren from committing mass genocide on the world outside of Paradis Island. So from that alone, it’s pretty clear that these last few episodes will be epic from beginning to end, a grand finale worthy of one of the biggest and most influential anime series ever.
