Bill Murray’s “Inappropriate Behavior” Shuts Down New Aziz Ansari Movie: Report

Bill Murray‘s “inappropriate behavior” has temporarily shut down production on Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut feature film Being Mortal since Monday, per a report from Deadline. Justin Kroll’s reporting stated: “Insiders say it is not Covid-related and added that after investigating a complaint that was filed last week, the studio chose to suspend production as it assesses the situation.” Further details into the investigation are currently unknown beyond the fact that it involves Murray. Ansari, who was embroiled in his own accusations of sexual misconduct in 2018, is confirmed to not be a part of the complaint.

This news comes hot on the heels of three firings of big-name elder statesmen from highly-anticipated projects within the past several months. In December, Jeff Garlin parted ways with ABC sitcom The Goldbergs, on which he had starred as the titular family’s patriarch for nine seasons, after multiple misconduct allegations came to light. Even more recently, on April 14, we shared that Frank Langella was fired from the production of upcoming Netflix horror series The Fall of the House of Usher after being accused of sexual harassment on set. Additionally, just yesterday we reported that F. Murray Abraham would not return to Apple TV+ sitcom Mythic Quest for its upcoming third season, although the reason behind his departure is currently unknown.

Being Mortal is a Searchlight Pictures film based on Atul Gawande’s 2014 nonfiction book Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End. Murray, Ansari (who also serves as screenwriter), and Seth Rogen were set to star. No news yet on if this means that Murray has been axed from the project, which was halfway through filming at the time the allegations came to light.
