‘Big Sky’ Season 2 Episode 16: Finding Ford

Okay, so ABC hates Big Sky then? Is that why we have to wait like a month between episodes all season long? I appreciate the “Previously On…” recaps but yeesh, it feels like ages ago that we last saw Jenny and Cassie and Travis and… who else is even on this show? My memory is not that good, ABC! (Here’s the recap from episode 15 if you need to catch up.)

Jenny was in trouble with the Bhullars when we last saw her. They know she’s responsible for killing Dhruv and they’ve ordered Travis to kill her, and have stuck Donno with Travis to make sure the job gets done. But Jenny is clever and notices them as they’re staking her out at the sheriff’s station, and tells them to scram. It certainly complicates Jenny and Travis’s already complicated relationship, the fact that he has to kill her now.

Also living in Complicated Relationshipville are Lindor and Cassie. The two spent the night together at her house after he professed his feelings for her, but the next morning, his phone starts blowing up with messages from Jerrie, who he kissed and who gave him an ultimatum to figure his love life out, and he comes clean to Cassie that he and Jerrie had “a thing” a while back. Cassie was away for a while grieving the death of her father and she seems surprised to hear this, but when Lindor says the texts from Jerrie are actually about Richard Ford, the father of Mason Ford, the kid who overdosed on the Bhullar’s drugs, Cassie and Lindor haul it to the office together, all business. There, things are supes-awkes between Jerrie and Lindor, but she explains that Richard is missing, and Cassie suggests that he’s planning to hunt and kill whoever sold his son the tainted drugs, and they head out to try and stop him.

Jenny, who typically wears vintage t-shirts features classic rock bands in every episode, comes down her stairs the next morning rocking a Green Day t-shirt, which makes me feel old and annoyed because playing at Woodstock ’94 does not make you classic rock. Travis is waiting for her in her kitchen where he tells her he’s supposed to kill her. He also comes clean over who Kate is, the woman that Jenny assumes is his girlfriend, but who was actually Travis’s informant who was feeding him information about the Bhullars, and she was killed because, as Travis explains, he didn’t pull her out of the Bhullar’s orbit fast enough. And for that, Travis wants to kill Verr Bhullar, and he’s just waiting for his moment. He warns Jenny that is she continues her own investigation into the Bhullars though, she really may end up dead.

Over at Ren’s luxury AirBnB, she and Jag are wondering what game their father is playing at, now that they know he’s the one who cut their drug supply with something that’s causing people to overdose. Alicia walks in and hears them talking and, since we know that Alicia is mysterious and her motives are never clear, she does another mysterious and motive-curious thing, offering to be Ren and Jag’s lawyer, and to even shake down the sheriff’s department to get them off the Bhullar’s back. Alicia goes to Sheriff Tubb’s office and requests a cease and desist, saying that Jenny is harassing them and the sheriff’s office needs to back off and she says that the warrant Jenny used to search the Bhullars was bogus. She’s not wrong, and Jenny and Tubb know it. But this emboldens Tubb, and he orders Jenny to take down the Bhullars before they take down the sheriff’s office.

At the Bhullar’s construction site, Tanya shows up to work at the model home (jk, it’s just the mobile trailer), where Brice the truck driver is waiting for her to get his paycheck, but also, he is Jenny’s informant and he was also stealing important documents for her. While the two are there, Richard Ford shows up asking to talk to a Bhullar. Brice tells him to leave by showing his sidearm, and Richard walks out, but Brice and Tanya are shaken by his weird presence.

You know it’s bad news when there’s a new location introduced on the show, and in this episodes, we see Sheriff Tubb at his own house, and as he greets his cat and makes smalltalk with her about her salmon dinner, Richard Ford sneaks up on him with his gun pointed and asks Tubb for the location of the Bhullars. “You let this cartel grow and fester. You let these drug dealers run this town,” Richard tells Tubb, still pointing his gun.

Tubb makes a grab for the gun and the men tussle until the gun goes off. Tubb is shot in the stomach and falls to the floor. Ford calls 911 and runs.

When Jenny arrives to Tubb’s house, Tubb is still alive, and he whispers to her that Richard Ford is responsible. Jenny calls for a manhunt to find Ford, but while that’s happening, her informant, Brice, asks her to meet. Brice gets delayed though when Tanya, who noticed that her desk stapler was slightly crooked, stops him to ask if he stole the manifest from her desk. He denies that he did it, and Donno pops out with a gun pointed at him. Brice breaks down in tears saying Jenny got to him and he had to turn on the Bhullars, and Tanya thanks him for his honesty, promising that in return, neither Donno nor the Bhullars will kill him. No, Tanya will do it herself. As she consoles him after his confession, she shoves a knife into his gut.

“I thought it would be harder,” she says to Donno after killing Brice.

“Some people are just naturals,” he smiles, proud of baby’s first kill.

Over at the Ford’s house, Jenny and Cassie confront Richard’s wife Mona to try and locate him. When they ask her about a series of coded text messages they found on her phone, she admits that they were messages to her drug dealer, she’s been an addict for four years, unbeknownst to her husband.

Okay, so I know that Scarlet’s disappearance earlier this season is still unresolved but that storyline seems to far away from where we are now. But Lindor tells the Dewell & Hoyt gang that he has a lead on her whereabouts and she’s near the Canadian border. Lindor and Jerrie take off to try and find her.

Over at the Bhullar’s, Ren and Jag have decided that the best thing for their family business is to steal it away from their father, who is clearly not acting in the business’s best interests. Verr has been out of town, and Jag leaves the house to go pick him up after his flight back into Montana. After he leaves, Travis arrives to check in, where Ren tells him that Tanya has killed Brice and that Travis needs to take over handling logistics for drug deliveries now. As Travis quickly calls Jenny to tell her that Brice has been found out and killed, he approaches a strange car parked at the Bhullars. He approaches it, where he finds Richard Ford, who points a gun at him and tells him, “I’m here to meet Veer Bhullar.” Sorry buddy, he’s getting picked up at the airport, it’s gonna be a while.
