Dave Chappelle’s Hollywood Bowl Set from Netflix Comedy Fest Won’t Air on Streamer

Dave Chappelle‘s most infamous comedy set won’t be available to stream for the masses. The comic’s May 3 performance at the Netflix Is a Joke Festival, during which he was attacked onstage at The Hollywood Bowl, will not be added to the Netflix library, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

The decision was made before Chappelle even took to the stage last week, the outlet reports. Netflix never planned to share the set with its subscribers, and “made it clear” prior to his performance that Chappelle’s shows at The Hollywood Bowl “were not being taped for a special,” per THR.

Still, that doesn’t mean footage of the set — and the moment Chappelle was allegedly tackled by suspect Isaiah Lee — doesn’t exist. While there are a few spotty cell phone videos of the moment circulating on social media, Chappelle’s Hollywood Bowl show was professionally recorded by his own cameras.

The attack took place while Chappelle was mid-set last Tuesday. Lee was quickly apprehended onstage and has since been charged with four misdemeanors; he pleaded not guilty on Friday to all charges. Shortly after the attack, Netflix released a statement standing by Chappelle and all of its performers. A spokesperson for the streamer said in a statement shared with Decider,  “We care deeply about the safety of creators and we strongly defend the right of stand-up comedians to perform on stage without fear of violence.”

While Chappelle’s set won’t be landing on Netflix any time soon, the streamer will be sharing other performances from its comedy festival. Shows from at least 10 comics are all coming to Netflix this spring and summer, including sets from David Letterman, Amy Schumer and Pete Davidson. Check out the full release schedule below.
