‘Resident Evil’ Returns to Raccoon City In First Haunting Netflix Teaser Trailer

Netflix is traveling to 2036 in the first look at its upcoming horror series, Resident Evil. The streamer dropped the first teaser for its highly anticipated show today, giving a glimpse at a frightening future full of blood, gore and violence.

Before dropping us years ahead, the Resident Evil teaser first reveals New Raccoon City in the year 2022, where Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick) moves with his family, including his two daughters, Billie and Jade (Tamara Smart and Ella Balinska). As the family drives into the city, Albert tells the girls, “Welcome home. I really think you guys are going to love it here.”

While their new home seems picture-perfect on the surface, there’s something sinister lurking not far away. When the teaser jumps in time to 2036, Billie is nowhere to be seen, and Jade is alone in what remains of a nearly unrecognizable London.

Netflix dropped the first Resident Evil teaser trailer after first announcing the series in August 2020 and revealing its cast a year later. Along with Reddick, Smart and Balinska, the series also stars Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti and Turlough Convery.

The upcoming series is one of many projects inspired by the wildly popular Resident Evil video game, which was first released in 1996. In the years since, there have been multiple live-action Resident Evil films from Paul W. S. Anderson, as well as a reboot from Johannes Roberts titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Netflix released an anime series, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, last year.

The official description for the latest installment in the Resident Evil franchise reads: “Year 2036 – 14 years after Joy caused so much pain, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and mind-shattering creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the sinister Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.”

Resident Evil premieres on Netflix July 14. Watch the full teaser trailer in the video above.
