People are buzzing about On the Count of Three, a dark comedy-thriller film that premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. Now the title is finally about to be available to a wider audience thanks to a May 13 simultaneous release to select theaters and the digital streaming space.

Written by Ari Katcher and Ryan Welch and produced by Annapurna Pictures and Orion Pictures, On the Count of Three tells the story of depressed best friends Val (Jerrod Carmichael) and Kevin (Christopher Abbott) who decide to have one last incredible day together before following through with a suicide pact that will oblige them to kill one another (because apparently that’s what friends are for).

On the Count of Three boasts an incredible cast that includes Tiffany Haddish, Henry Winkler, J. B. Smoove, Lavell Crawford, and Jared Abrahamson alongside Carmichael and Abbott. The movie also marks Carmichael’s feature directorial debut.
