Where Was ‘The Quest’ on Disney+ Filmed?

Disney+’s revival of The Quest is as an elaborate adventure into the fictional land of Everealm. While the original 2014 series saw 12 adults taking on the scripted fantasy world, this time around will follow eight real-life teenagers. The show functions as an exciting hybrid of both scripted television and reality competition, and the contestants must complete a number of tasks in order to bring balance back to the Kingdom of Sanctum, which has been threatened by an evil sorceress.

With all the magical elements that make the series such an immersive experience for both the audience and the contestants, there’s one looming question that remains at the top of everyone’s minds: where is this fantastical series filmed?

Where was The Quest filmed?

The fantasy competition series was filmed on location in Calistoga, California. Though producers initially wanted to shoot at Burg Kreuzenstein, a castle outside of Vienna, Austria where the original 2014 version of The Quest was filmed, the COVID-19 pandemic shifted the production to California. Production for the first season of the revival series started in January 2021 and wrapped in March 2021.

The Quest‘s key location for the production is Castello di Amarosa in Napa County, a famous winery that resembles an “authentically styled 13th-century Tuscan castle,” making it a picture perfect location for depicting the fantasy world of Everealm. The interior of the castle consists of eight levels and 107 rooms. Construction for the site was headed by Dario Sattui, whose family has a history of owning wineries. After purchasing the land in 1993, he built the castle with the winery in the interior. Before opening to the public in 2007, the winery was part of an estate owned by Edward Turner Bale.

While Calistoga remains a fairly small city (a total area of just 2.6 miles!), it has been frequented by several filmmakers over the years as its home a variety of projects, including Wine CountryLittle Red Riding Hood, Bottle Shock, and The Animal.
