‘Sopranos’ Actor Bruce MacVittie Dead at 65

Bruce MacVittie, a theater, film and television actor, has died. He was 65. MacVittie, who was known for his roles in The Sopranos, the Law & Order franchise and more, died in a hospital, his wife told The New York Times, although she did not share his cause of death.

MacVittie began acting professionally in 1980 when he appeared in the Edward Allan Baker play “What’s So Beautiful About a Sunset Over Prairie Avenue?” after graduating from Boston University and moving to New York City. He went on to appear on Broadway in David Mamet’s American Buffalo, where he shared the stage with Al Pacino.

His first TV role was on Barney Miller, and dozens of appearances followed, with credits on Miami Vice, The Equalizer, L.A. Law, The Stand, and more. MacVittie also appeared in New York Undercover, Sex and the City, Oz, Now and Again and 100 Centre Street. In 2002, he appeared on multiple episodes of The Sopranos as juror Danny Scalercio.

While he had numerous television credits, MacVittie also worked on multiple films throughout his decades-long career. The actor appeared in Stonewall, Hi-Life, Hannibal, Million Dollar Baby, Looking for Richard and more.

In more recent years, MacVittie appeared in Body of Proof, Person of Interest, and Pan Am, before taking an acting hiatus between 2013 and 2018. After taking a pause in his work, he returned to TV, with roles on Blue Bloods, Chicago Med, When They See Us, The Deuce, and Law & Order: SVU. His last role was in the CBS series Bull, in which he played Ruben Ware.

MacVittie is survived by his wife, Carol Ochs, and his daughter.
