‘The Boys’ Season 3 Trailer: Meet the Real Homelander

Homelander (Antony Starr) is broken. After the events of Season 2 of Prime Video’s The Boys, the all-powerful, nearly indestructible superhero is trying to repair his image, while his mind is seemingly entirely shattered. And as seen in the bloody, profane The Boys Season 3 trailer, which was just released online, he’s ready to let the world meet the “real” Homelander.

Uh-oh.

In case you’re not familiar with The Boys, everything fans like about the show is on display in the new trailer (which is decidedly less frenetic than the teaser trailer released a few weeks ago), laying out the story and big conflicts for the upcoming season. After a group of anti-superhero activists (that would be those Boys you hear so much about) managed to seemingly effectively hobble both superhero team The Seven and Vought International, the corporation behind superheroes, everyone — even Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) — is trying to lead a normal life.

Unfortunately, there’s no normal when Homelander is around, and only Boys associate/Seven member Starlight (Erin Moriarty) can see that something is very, very wrong with the supe. So it’s time to level the playing field, as she gives the team a drug that mimics the effects of Compound-V, turning the user into a superhero for 24 hours.

This drug gets immediately used by Butcher, but brings him into direct conflict with the rest of the team. Is he becoming what they all fear the most?

…Or at least, what they fear the most until we meet the original superhero, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), a brutal Captain America type who has been on ice for decades. When Butcher wakes him up, will he be the ultimate weapon in the war against Homelander? Or have The Boys released an even bigger threat?

The Boys also stars Jack Quaid, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, Colby Minifie, and Claudia Doumit. The first three episodes will be released on June 3, with one episode released every subsequent Friday leading to the finale on Friday, July 8. You can watch the full trailer, above.
