Cybill Shepherd Gushes About Former ‘Moonlighting’ Co-Star Bruce Willis: “We Were Both Very Attracted To Each Other”

Very few actors have ever come together to create a TV couple as sizzling and memorable as Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis’s Maddie Hayes and David Addison in 1980s ABC dramedy Moonlighting. The beloved series followed the unlikely dynamic duo of former model Maddie (Shepherd) and smart aleck detective David (Willis) as they unite to manage private detective agency Blue Moon Investigations, and in doing so, solve all sorts of engaging and unique mysteries in the midst of swapping smart zingers and working through palpable sexual tension.

While that tension had a history of following the actors offscreen, leading to various periods of feuds between the two, Shepherd recently took the time to open up to Extra about the more positive side of their relationship and the special connection that helped to fuel their famous crackling onscreen chemistry.

“My temperature went up 10 degrees. That meant two things to me: one, I was very attracted to him, two, I would never act on it, ’cause we were both very attracted to each other.”

When it came to who would be her leading man, it wasn’t even a question: “No one else was ever considered for the part when he walked in the room.”

The actress (who won two Golden Globe Awards for her acting on Moonlighting) then finished on a high note, telling Extra, “I will always love Bruce.”

Shepherd’s words come in the wake of Willis’s retirement from acting, which was announced on March 30th in a statement by the actor’s eldest three daughters Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah, as well as by his ex-wife Demi Moore and current wife Emma Heming Willis. Willis’s retirement comes in the wake of news that the actor has been battling aphasia, a language disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate.

At 67 years-old, Willis has left quite a mark on the entertainment industry throughout the 44 years of his professional onscreen career thanks to unforgettable performances in films like  Pulp FictionArmageddon, The Sixth SenseMoonrise Kingdom, the Die Hard film franchise, and so much more. The actor is the recipient of two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe, two of which were due to his work in Moonlighting.
