‘Ahsoka’ Reveals Jaw-Dropping Footage, Live-Action Versions of Familiar Faces at Star Wars Celebration

There is so much Star Wars for fans to get excited about, and that’s why what’s nominally a Mandalorian panel can turn into a sweeping overview of the upcoming Star Wars lineup without a moment’s notice. That happened at Star Wars Celebration when a panel billed as a conversation between Mandalorian EP’s Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni became, well, the Ahsoka Tano Show.

This was a surprise considering that Rosario Dawson, the show’s lead, missed the Lucasfilm panel on Thursday due to filming on Ahsoka. But, as Dawson told the crowd, it’s a good thing they don’t film on Saturdays. And what with this being the first Star Wars Celebration since the launch of Star Wars’ live-action TV component, and therefore this being Dawson’s first Celebration since taking on the role, Ahsoka EP Dave Filoni had to give all the fans a taste of what’s to come. Yep, the show’s only been filming for three weeks but Filoni brought a teaser!

The teaser is quick (again, they’ve only been filming for three weeks) but it includes some massive reveals that got the entire crowd screaming. We see shots of Ahsoka on a spaceship, on a dusty planet, putting her hand on a rock and a worn down sigil on the ground. We even see her (at least I think it’s her) trying to move a cup while onboard a spaceship.

But all of that, as rad as it is — we’ve seen Ahsoka already on Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett. The big reveal? One shot on the bridge of a spaceship reveals a familiar green Twi’lek — it’s Hera. Hera! Hera from Star Wars Rebels is on this show! We only see her from behind, but she’s essentially wearing her animated look. And we also don’t know who’s playing her — although one has to wonder if it could be Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who’s involvement in the show has yet to be officially announced.

And just as the footage seems to end, we cut to a mural of the Ghost crew. All of them. And who’s the best artist in Star Wars? It’s Sabine Wren — and we see her from behind as well, admiring her work.

That’s it, that’s the footage, and it was glorious. The panel also included a few reveals via guests. The mural ain’t the only Rebels connection. CHOPPER rolled out onstage, indicating that he’s going to be a big part of Ahsoka. When Filoni saw the droid, he joked, “You need to get back to set, buddy. We got a lot of work to do.” And then the panel welcomed Rosario Dawson’s costar, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who will play Sabine Wren. In her first appearance at Celebration, she said that she feels “like I’ve just been adopted into a new family.” She said that the Ahsoka set was “the most welcoming, creative” and that after watching all of Rebels, Sabine means a lot to her. So now we know that this show will star Ahsoka and feature Sabine, Chopper, and Hera in supporting roles!

As for finding the right actors to play characters in live-action, Filoni said, “It’s a huge challenge. These characters have been in my mind and yours. Ashley Ecksetin and Tiya Sircar [who voiced Ahsoka and Sabine respectively] are phenomenal and made them who they are. There’s a host of people who don’t get to be on panel here, and they’re responsible for these characters.”

The hype around this series just tripled, and it was already massive. While we don’t have a release date for it yet, we now have plenty of content to speculate about and that should keep us occupied until even more announcements drop.
