Bo Burnham Marks 1-Year Anniversary of ‘Inside’ with Previously Unseen Footage

With coronavirus cases still spiking around the country, Bo Burnham‘s 2021 quarantine comedy project, Bo Burnham: Inside, unfortunately remains a little too relevant. But the timing works out for the comedian, who is celebrating one year since he released his hit Netflix special. To mark the occasion, Burnham released unused footage from this special on YouTube, which he teased on Twitter Monday.

“[A] year ago today, i released a special called inside. i’ve spent the last two months editing together material that i shot for the special but didn’t end up using,” Burnham wrote. “it will be on my youtube channel in one hour. i hope you enjoy it.”

Burnham uploaded the footage, which he titled “The Inside Outtakes,” to his YouTube page Monday. The result is an hour-plus montage of clips, all of which were filmed between March 2020 and May 2021, and later edited from April 2022 to May 2022.

Inside, which first premiered on Netflix in May 2021, features Burnham performing original songs alone while in lockdown during early days of the coronavirus pandemic. The special, which marked his first comedy project in five years, features songs about a wide array of topics, including Jeff Bezos, Instagram, unpaid interns and sexting. Burnham wrote and directed the entire special, and also shot and edited his own performances.

Burnham’s ambitious project earned rave reviews upon its release, including praise from Decider’s Sean L. McCarthy, who described Inside as “Easily the best comedy special of the pandemic, if not the best ‘content’ of any kind from the pandemic that you’ll see, putting everything we’ve felt over the past year and a half, and still feel, as each of us figure out what comes next.”
