HBO Max Cancels ‘Made For Love’ After 2 Seasons

HBO Max‘s very first original series has been canceled after just two seasons. The dark romantic comedy series Made For Love just wrapped its second season on May 19, which will serve as its series finale.

“We are tremendously grateful for the truly spectacular journey of these past two seasons, courtesy of Alissa Nutting, Christina Lee, Cristin, Billy, Ray and the entire ‘Made for Love’ cast and creative team – especially Zelda the talking dolphin and everyone’s favorite synthetic love interest, Diane,” said reps for HBO Max in a statement Friday. “Like a Gogol chip, the series will always be on our minds.”

The show was based on the Alissa Nutting novel of the same name and was executive produced by Christina Lee and Nutting for Paramount Television Studios. It starred starred Cristin Milioti, Billy Magnussen and Ray Romano. Also appearing in the series were Dan Bakkedahl, Noma Dumezweni, Augusto Aguilera and Caleb Foote.

Made For Love centered on the tumultuous, suffocating marriage between Hazel Green (Milioti) and her tech billionaire husband Byron Gogol (Magnussen), who had a Made for Love chip implanted in her brain to monitor her. As Hazel attempted to gain her independence, Byron was able to track her every move and collect “emotional data” from her.

She ultimately flees her marriage and retreats to her aging widower father, Herbert (Ray Romano), who lives with his synthetic partner, Diane.

Hazel attempts to save her father’s life in Season 2 by returning to Byron’s high-tech palace “the Hub.” Once inside, however, she and Byron both become captives of Gogol’s dangerous new technology.

In addition to Lee and Nutting, the series was executive produced by Patrick Somerville, Dean Bakopoulos, Liza Chasin, Daisy Mayer and SJ Clarkson.
