‘The Boys’ Jensen Ackles Reveals Whether There Will Be a Soldier Boy Album: “I Hope So”

Jensen Ackles has made a habit of crooning a tune now and again at the odd Supernatural convention, but even fans might have been surprised by his performance on this week’s episode of The Boys. In the opening minutes of the hour, titled “Glorious Five Year Plan”, we see Ackles’ character Soldier Boy performing “Rapture” by Blondie on Solid Gold, in some faux-vintage footage.

It’s a hilarious, of its time moment for the show’s dark version of Captain America, and it’s not the last time we’ll see Ackles perform on the series. So will we be getting a “Soldier Boy Sings The Hits” album down the road?

“I hope so,” Ackles told Decider, laughing, while co-star Claudia Doumit chanted, “Release the album! Release the album!”

And while that might be a far away possibility, despite Chace Crawford confidently stating that a potential album “will chart,” there is actually a slew of bonus material that Ackles created for Soldier Boy. Some of it has already popped up online, like a 1984-era PSA, or in the show a la the Solid Gold appearance. There are even scenes from a ’80s style action movie called Red Thunder. But according to Ackles, there’s still a ton more fans will potentially see, at some point.

“There will definitely be some added special features when the whole season drops,” Ackles teased. “Where that will be, I don’t know, but we… [Producer/Director] Phil Sgriccia and I spent several days just filming outrageously extensive Soldier Boy stuff. So there is a lot out there. I don’t know what it’s going to be used for, but I know that there’s a lot of material out there.”

This is all part of the extended world of The Boys, which stretches beyond the show, animated spinoff Diabolical and its in-the-works college-set spinoff series. Over the break between Seasons 2 and 3, Prime Video rolled-out an in-continuity web series called 7 on The Seven hosted by Cameron Coleman (really actor Matthew Edison), which had ramifications for Season 3. There have also been music videos, fake trailers, and even house tours that all take place in the media-savvy world of The Boys.

Point being, this is just the tip of the iceberg for whatever is coming from Ackles’ Soldier Boy, so could an album be far off? Only if he survives the season, of course.

The Boys streams new episodes on Prime Video every Friday.
