From the moment Rhea Seehorn‘s Kim entered the world of Better Call Saul, we’ve been worried about her. Breaking Bad has always existed in a brutal universe. Any character who has appeared in its prequel without popping up in AMC’s 2008 crime drama seems as though they’re destined for a gruesome death. And Better Call Saul’s latest teaser is doing exactly nothing to alleviate those fears.

Attached to a tweet that reads “Take the oath,” the video features a blood-splattered candle. “I, Kimberly Wexler, do solemnly swear that as an attorney and as a counselor of this court, I will conduct myself uprightly and according to law,” Kim says offscreen. “I will maintain civility at all times and abstain from all offensive personality. I will never seek to mislead the judge or jury by any artifice or false statement of fact or law, and that I will support the constitution of the United States.”

Right as she ends her oath, the candle’s flame flickers as though it’s being blown out. Chilling.

There’s a pretty obvious and disturbing implication here. To “snuff out” a candle means to extinguish its flame. It’s also a colloquial term that refers to killing a person. It also visually — and spoilers past this point — references a moment towards the end of the last broadcast episode, when a candle in Kim and Jimmy’s (Bob Odenkirk) flickered when first Howard (Patrick Fabian) entered, then more terrifyingly, Lalo (Tony Dalton) returned. Overall, this really doesn’t bode well for Kim.

Speaking of the law, it feels important that Kim is reciting the Oath of Admission to the bar because she’s broken most of these vows. When she fabricated evidence to implicate Howard, Kim wasn’t acting upright according to the law. She hasn’t exactly misled a judge or a jury, but she hasn’t been entirely truthful with some of them either. And though she’s remained civil and inoffensive at all times, she hasn’t abstained from other offensive personalities. Jimmy is practically the definition of the term as is Lalo, the literal head of a cartel. Ethically speaking, Kim doesn’t have the best rap sheet.

There is a very slim hope that this clip isn’t foreshadowing Kim’s death. It could represent Kim ending her legal career and relationship with the law. Perhaps that’s wishful thinking on our part, but we really don’t want to lose this powerhouse. Either way, we’ll know what’s in store for Kim sooner rather than later. Better Call Saul Season 6 returns to AMC Monday, July 11.
