The Umbrella Academy Season 3 has already been out a few days, you’ve watched it several times — and you still have questions. Don’t worry, we’re here to answer them. Or more specifically, Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman is here to answer four of your burning questions about the finale episode, “Oblivion” — as well as offer up some very intriguing teases for a potential Season 4.

Spoilers on, obviously, but at the end of Season 3 the survivors of members of the Umbrella Academy have been thrust into a strange, new world that is ruled by their father, Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore). Also, they’re powerless. Also, Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) seems to have reset the timeline in her favor, to bring her an ideal family unit. Oh, and there’s a third Ben (Justin H. Min)?

There’s a lot more going on here, but let’s not waste too much time. Here’s what you need to know about Umbrella Academy Season 3, and beyond:

1

What's Next Now That The Umbrellas Don't Have Powers?

As mentioned, at the end of Season 3 the Umbrella Academy members are all powerless and headed in different directions. Meanwhile, Hargreeves is in a very new situation that changes things significantly as well. So what’s next?

“I do know what Season 4 is,” Blackman told Decider, “and we leave them in a pretty precarious place with the question that I hope the audience is asking themselves is: are they better off without their powers? Are they better off with them? Did Hargreeves give them the gift and say, look, you’ve hated the powers, it’s been the bane of your existence. Now you are free, you are, quote unquote, normal. Can they live like that and be normal?

“I have a way that they’ll get their powers back. But also, Hargreeves got something very special back himself—he got his wife. But that is also a very complicated story, given that they’re aliens, which we will also hopefully touch on next year. The world, if you look carefully, is slightly different as well, this timeline, a lot of Hargreeves Enterprises things around. So, there’s a lot of places to go in Season 4, and I’ve got a really good plan for it if we get another year.”

Who Is Business Ben In The End Credits Scene?

The final scene of the season, midway through the credits on “Oblivion”, is Ben sitting on a subway, reading a book, and then staring into the middle distance. So who is this Ben, particularly given the Ben from Season 2, aka Jerk Ben from the Sparrow Academy, is also alive and wandering around.

“I can only tell you that it’s the Ben from this season and it is alluding to something for next season. So, it is a mystery. I’m glad you actually watched. A lot of people missed it already. But it is a Ben from this timeline, but something that’s going to be coming later on.”

Will We Find Out More About The Creators Of The Universe?

One huge piece of information that is semi-casually dropped in the final episode? After being led to the alternate dimension Hotel Oblivion, Hargreeves reveals that the “hotel” is actually a machine built by the creators of the universe. We don’t get many more details than that, though the machine is used to reset the timeline in Hargreeves — and Allison’s — favor.

“We do a lot of research and we’re trying to talk… I mean, we didn’t go to a spiritual place. But we had a long discussion about someone or something… However the universe started, we thought there has to be a reset button somewhere. And that’s where we went with this. Hargreeves didn’t quite get to finish the reprogramming before Allison took him down, as she pressed the button, because she wanted to get what the deal was, which is her daughter and Ray back. But there’s obviously going to be something wrong, because he didn’t get to finish his job.”

Are Allison, Ray And Claire In The Same Universe? Or A Different Timeline?

While the rest of the Umbrellas wander around this new world, Allison is at home, finally, and in her ideal situation: with her daughter, Claire, and husband from 1963, Ray. But is this part of the new timeline? A pocket universe? The afterlife? What’s going on here? Blackman wasn’t able to say much, but he did offer this up: “I can tell you that Allison, Ray and Claire are in this timeline and they’re all real.”
