AOC Reacts To Stunning Jan. 6 Testimony on ‘Colbert’: “They Knew That What They Were Doing Was Wrong”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is weighing in on yesterday’s surprise bombshell testimony during the Jan. 6 committee hearings, telling Stephen Colbert that the information provided by former aide to Mark Meadows, Cassidy Hutchinson, was “stunning” to take in.

AOC stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday (June 28), the same day Hutchinson told the committee that Donald Trump wanted to join the Jan. 6 mob, among other shocking revelations. When Colbert asked his guest what her “immediate emotional takeaway” to the testimony was, the congresswoman replied, “It was just stunning to understand and see the detail and the depth through which there was also just a conscientiousness of guilt.”

She continued, “They knew that what they were doing was wrong. When, at the very end of this hearing, you hear that Mark Meadows, the chief of staff to the president himself, asked for a pardon because he knew that he was breaking the law in order to seize power and undermine democracy in the United States of America, it is stunning. It is absolutely stunning.”

AOC then referred to one of the most alarming segments of Hutchinson’s testimony, in which she revealed that Trump lunged at a Secret Service agent from the backseat of a car and tried to grab him by the neck when the former president was told he could not join the insurrection at the Capitol.

“The president himself was willing to choke his own Secret Service,” AOC said as the audience laughed.

Colbert chimed in, telling AOC “the detail” he most appreciated in Hutchinson’s testimony about Trump’s attempted assault on the Secret Service. The late night host explained, “[Trump] goes to grab the wheel, and this is how long it’s been since he’s driven himself anywhere: he thinks you can drive from the backseat. He forgot about the pedals.”

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on CBS. Watch AOC’s appearance in the clip above.
