David Harbour Offers Up Jacob Elordi As Hopper in ‘Stranger Things’ Prequel

David Harbour wants a Hollywood heartthrob to take his place on Stranger Things. And the actor, who stars as Jim Hopper in the Netflix hit, has just the man in mind to portray his character in a Stranger Things prequel: Jacob Elordi.

Harbour suggested the Euphoria actor as a suitable choice for the younger version of his police chief character while speaking with GQ; he offered up Elordi in a profile promoting the latest season of Stranger Things, which premiered on Netflix last week (and crashed the site with its unmatched popularity).

“I think as soon as the show ends, or maybe six months before it ends, you’ll be hearing about whatever spinoffs they have planned,” Harbour said of the possibility to expand the Stranger Things universe.

“At this point, I think Hopper is a character that can exist independent of me,” he continued. “If they wanna go back in time, forward in time… I’d love to see another actor play Hopper, and see what they can bring to it.”

He later told GQ in an email that Elordi could be the perfect choice for a young Hopper, explaining to the magazine, “He could pull off being as handsome as I was at 20.”

Elordi is known for his role as high school menace Nate Jacobs on Euphoria, HBO’s dark, glittery teen drama, but he’s also starred in The Kissing Booth and Deep Water.

Along with his spinoff suggestion, Harbour had some more bits of info to share for fans who’ve already managed to blow through all of Season 4, Vol. 2 of Stranger Things.

“I think we’ll [shoot] next year,” Harbour said of Stranger Things Season 5. “They’re finishing writing it this year, and they need to prep and stuff, so hopefully it’ll be this year. But I think that’s the plan. So it’d probably come out mid-2024, based on our track record.”

Sounds like plenty of time to connect with Elordi about that Hopper role.
